Your guide to all things Waco during Baylor Homecoming week

There’s so many things to do in Waco around Baylor Homecoming week. With events like the Baylor Homecoming parade and football game, Waco Restaurat Week, Día de los Muertos festival, and many other events filling the month of October, Waco locals and those coming from out of town have lots to choose from.

Let us be your guide to the perfect Baylor Homecoming week in Waco.

Baylor Homecoming

Baylor Homecoming weekend returns to Waco October 27-November 1, 2025, a time filled with tradition, school spirit, and community pride. This beloved tradition includes the nation’s largest collegiate parade, a massive bonfire, pep rally, and a variety of alumni and family-friendly events across campus.

The Bonfire

The Baylor Homecoming Bonfire began in 1946 when Baylor freshmen lit nightly fires to protect the campus from rival Aggie pranks. What started as a spiritual defense effort has grown into one of Baylor’s most iconic traditions, symbolizing unity and school pride before the big game.

The bonfire has moved around as Baylor’s campus has expanded, from the central quad to the Intramural Fields, the Ferrell Center, and now back in the heart of campus, Fountain Mall.

Bonfire festivities kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 31 with Extravaganza, featuring carnival games, Baylor’s favorite food trucks, and family-friendly activities. The Pep Rally begins at 9 p.m. with the Golden Wave Marching Band, Spirit Squads, followed by the bonfire at approximately 9:45 p.m. to close out the night.

The Parade

The nation’s largest collegiate parade steps off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 1 at Austin Avenue and 12th Street, but you may want to arrive at your desired viewing location at least 30 minutes early to secure parking and the best view. The parade will continue up Austin Avenue to Fourth Street where it will turn and continue toward Interstate 35. After crossing the highway, the parade will progress down Fifth Street on campus, past Penland Hall and the Rosenbalm Fountain. The parade arrives on campus approximately 30 minutes after the parade starts.

Waco Restaurant Week

Going out to eat the night before the big game? Arriving in Waco a few days early? Want to support Baylor alumni-owned restaurants in the spirit of Baylor Homecoming?

Waco Restaurant Week runs from October 24-31. It’s a great chance to experience the city’s diverse and growing food scene while supporting the community. Though we suggest trying some bites made by Bears, Waco Restaurant Week features an array of eateries, including:

Día de los Muertos Parade & Festival

If you want to fill your Waco weekend after the Baylor Homecoming festivities, don’t miss the Día de los Muertos Parade & Festival. This celebration of culture takes over downtown Waco with music, food, art, and a parade honoring the Mexican tradition. It’s one of Waco’s most colorful and community-focused events – a perfect opportunity to see Waco in a new way.

The Parade

The parade starts at 4 p.m. near West Waco Drive and proceeds down University Parks Drive before looping back at the festival area at Indian Spring Park near Franklin Avenue.

You’re encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes early to find a good viewing spot – bring a folding chair or blanket, as seating is limited and the sidewalk will fill up fast. Also, consider using a rideshare or parking a bit further away and walking, since downtown parking may be tight between the festivities.

The Festival

The Día de los Muertos Festival runs from 4-10 p.m. at Indian Spring Park. Here’s your to-do list to make the most of the festival:

  • Plan for parking.
  • Arrive early (we recommend around 5 p.m.) so you can browse vendor stalls before things get crowded.
  • Bring a light jacket – Waco’s weather is as predictable as I-35 traffic.
  • Bring an ofrenda. You may add photos, flowers, and keepsakes to the community ofrenda.
  • Need a quiet place for your little one? Festival zones often include quieter arts of kids’ zones.
  • Bring your dancing shoes. From mariachi to modern sounds, the festival will feature live performances throughout the night.

Halloween in Waco

Baylor Homecoming happens to fall on Halloween weekend this year, but you don’t have to miss out on the spooky excitement.

Halloween Organ Concert

Baylor’s School of Music presents a hair-raising musical experience at its annual Halloween Organ Concert on October 31. The free concert features hauntingly beautiful music performed on the grand organ, complete with a festive, spooky atmosphere – the perfect way to enjoy the Halloween spirit on campus.

WIC Boo Bash

The third annual WIC Boo Bash, from 3-6 p.m. at the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District (225 W. Waco Dr.) is the perfect family-friendly place to spend your Halloween afternoon. The event includes costume contests, trick-or-treating, games, and local vendors, making it a fun stop for kids and adults alike.

Western Belle Family Farm Pumpkin Festival

If you’re looking for some classic fall fun, head over to the Western Belle Family Farm Pumpkin Festival between now and November 9. This ultimate fall destination is located just 10 minutes north of Waco (7929 Heritage Parkway, West, TX 76691) and features hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin picking, and photo ops – the perfect spot to soak up autumn vibes before or after the big homecoming weekend.
