HOF Winners 2019: John-Paul Hayworth

Outstanding Young Alumni Award

John-Paul C. Hayworth is the Executive Director of the DC State Board of Education. He joined the State Board in 2015 after serving in two mayoral administrations and on Capitol Hill, including as an advisor on federal, congressional and local affairs specializing in education, economic development and budget issues.

Mr. Hayworth serves as the appointed agency head for the elected State Board. He is responsible for day-to-day operations of the agency as well as leading policy development and research on topics under the State Board’s purview.

John-Paul was in the Gamma class of the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core. BIC is a program where a group of 200 incoming freshmen satisfy their general education requirements like English, history and religion in an integrated and challenging curriculum. BIC’s reliance on primary texts and team-taught classes by some of Baylor’s best professors had a monumental impact on John-Paul. They helped to create a student leadership council to help guide the program and provide a liaison between the university, students and professors.

While at Baylor, John-Paul also served as Social Chair of the Men’s Glee Club, Round Up Yearbook section editor, and was the self-appointed, unofficial photographer of the NoZe Brotherhood.
