The Baylor Brief – October 24, 2025

We want to keep you up to date on the latest news around the Baylor bubble. This week, the first pediatric residency, Women's Golf takes on Hawaii, and more.

Baylor

New Pediatric Residency

Hannah Wheatley, PT, DPT (’24), is Baylor’s first pediatric physical therapy resident. Her background in dance, child ministry, and teaching inspired her to pursue a career serving children through movement.

The new residency – a partnership between Baylor and Hope and Believe Pediatric Therapy – integrates faith, service, and hands-on clinical experience. Throughout the program, Wheatley will work directly with patients, observing sessions and developing individualized care plans.

“For me, it’s bigger than just my profession. This is something that I feel very strongly called to, and I want to do it well,” Wheatley said in a Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences release.

A Prestigious Fellow

Liang Sun, Ph.D., associate professor of mechanical engineering in Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science, has been named a Class of 2026 Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) – the world’s largest aerospace technical society.

Sun will be inducted during AIAA SciTech Forum 2026 in January. Selection requires an individual to be an AIAA Senior Member with at least 12 years of professional experience and have three recommendations from other members .

“At Baylor, this recognition translates into tangible opportunities for students: hands-on research, strong industry partnerships and a clear pathway through ECS’s new aerospace engineering degree.” Sun said in an article from Baylor.

Strikingly Good Chances

The Bears head to Ohio this weekend for their second straight road game, kicking off at 3 p.m. CT against No. 21 Cincinnati.

This is only Baylor’s second time going up against the Bearcats. During their first matchup, Baylor had a 32-29 win over Cincinnati. Coming off a 42-36 loss against TCU, we feel pretty good about these odds. Baylor has a win in our books.

Leading the charge is redshirt senior quarterback Sawyer Robertson, named a finalist for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football’s top scholar-athlete honor recognizing excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

More in Bear Sports

Yurang Li fired a bogey-free final round of 65 and claimed an individual title and leading No. 15 Women’s Golf to a 10-shot victory at the 2025 Rainbow Wahine Invitational Championship. Li posted a career-best and school-record – Li’s 204-stroke total was the fifth-best in program history.

No. 16 Baylor Soccer is coming off a 2-0 win over Utah. This season is the best season under head coach Michelle Lenard and the program’s highest win total since 2018, with only two losses of the season being from TCU and Texas Tech. Their matchup against Houston starts at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Baylor is in the lead for the all-time series 7-. Their most recent matchup held last season, the Bears won 4-0.

Godly Talent

Phoenix Walwyn, a Baylor freshman and daughter of Billboard-charting gospel artist and pastor Vaughn Walwyn, has released a new gospel single titled “Sorry.” The song reflects on themes of reconciliation, regret, and repentance and will appear on her upcoming album.

In an interview with KWTX, Walwyn said, “Everyone has their own relationship with God, and everyone makes mistakes. It’s just so beautiful to me that even through our sin and our mistakes, He is still right there with his love, ready to take us back in.”
