WBB On The Rise

No. 16 Baylor women’s basketball is rising in the ranks after a 72-70 win over No. 11 Iowa State Sunday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The Bears trailed 21-17 after the first quarter, but rallied to take a 41-39 lead by halftime. With the score tied at 70 and two seconds left in the game, redshirt sophomore guard Taliah Scott scored, leading the Bears to victory.

Scott was named one of five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Players of the Week for the second time this season and Big 12 Player of the Week for her fourth weekly league award of the season. Scott averaged 22.5 points in the games against Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

Racket and Roll

Baylor tennis is back. While men’s tennis starts its season on Tuesday, Jan. 13, the team was selected 16th in the ITA Preseason Coaches Poll and one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the top-25.

No. 25 women’s tennis is slated to start its spring-opener at 7 a.m. with doubles matches to return at 11:30 a.m. for singles against Tennessee. The team is returning to the court with a combined 63 singles and 36 doubles victories, led by senior Na Dong’s 26 singles victories.

Globetrotters 100-Year Celebration Tour

Love is in the air at Foster Pavilion. The Harlem Globetrotters are trotting to Waco on Valentine’s Day as part of their centennial tour.

While this is not the Globetrotters’ first visit to Baylor, it marks their first appearance at Foster Pavilion since the venue opened in 2024. The team will face their longtime rivals, the Washington Generals, and debut their 100-year anniversary jerseys.

The history between the Globetrotters and Bears runs deep; Baylor Hall of Famer Aundre “Hot Shot” Branch spent eight seasons with the Globetrotters after starting for Baylor in the early 1990s.

One Step Closer

Baylor Professors Sam Henderson and Maverick Moore’s short film ADO was recently made the 98th Oscars Shortlist for Best Live Action Short Film. The film was directed, co-written, and co-produced by Sam Henderson, and Moore served as the editor for the project. Both teach in the Department of Film & Digital Media.

The film follows a soon-to-be-retired school drama teacher who is faced with an impossible situation when an active shooter walks into her students’ rehearsal of Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing. Be sure to stay tuned in for nomination announcements scheduled to be released on January 22.

President Livingstone to Join NABF Executive Committee

Baylor University president Dr. Linda Livingstone was recently elected to join the executive committee of the North American Baptist Fellowship.

The NABF is a regional body of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) whose mission is to provide support and pathways for connection to Baptists across the U.S. and Canada. President Livingstone is one of four new members named to the Executive Committee.

In a Baylor press release, Livingstone says “As a Member Partner of the Baptist World Alliance and through the NABF, Baylor University is well positioned to partner with other Baptists as they work across North America to impact the world for Christ.”
