Sermon in Flight
Chaplains have served to meet the spiritual needs of the American military members since the Continental Congress established them in 1775. Chaplain Davis, Chief of Chaplains for the U.S. Air Force, visited Baylor to speak during Turett Seminary’s Chapel Service. His message traced back to the legacy of Baylor’s Chaplain services, drawing from Chaplain Taylor, Davis shared a message to, “Take a Knee” inspired by Exodus 17:8-13.

Baylor Family Weekend
Baylor’s family weekend is coming up at full speed with events happening September 12-13. A few months ago it was announced that Lauren Daigle would be the second concert being hosted at the Paul and Alejandra Foster Pavilion – which is officially sold out. This is no surprise seeing as the first concert featuring Forrest Frank was a massive success.
Abbott visits the Baylor Club
Baylor has had a long line of politicians visit its campus: Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Sandra Day O’Connor… the list goes on. This past week Gov. Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State Address where he praised local leaders for improving the economy. Abbott noted funding that will benefit Texans – $146 billion to improve the infrastructure including IH-35, $8 billion for public schools, and $50 billion to reduce property taxes with a focus on senior and veteran benefits.
During the luncheon at The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, Gov. Abbott said, “Together, we are shaping the Texas economy as the best state for business development, job opportunities, and exports.”
Baylor’s Scott Drew added to NABC Board of Directors
As Scott Drew enters his 23rd season as the head coach for Baylor men’s basketball and tied as the Big 12’s longest-tenured head coach, was recently added to the NABC Board of Directors joined by eight head coaches from various teams. With the approaching basketball season, Drew has had an impressive wrap for the team – Baylor is one of five programs to reach the top-10 in six-straight season, averaging in 24 wins per season since Drew’s first year leading the Bears to the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and he continued to make a total of 13 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Anybody else missing basketball season right now? Baylor will open its 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against Grand Canyon on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Foster Pavilion at 4 p.m.
Saturday Morning(?) Lights
Last Friday, the Bears played their first home game of the season against Auburn, losing 38-24.
Baylor was ahead in the first quarter with a 3-0 lead, but shortly after, Auburn led 17-10 right before halftime. The Bears went 483 yards of total offense, including 419 passing and 64 rushing. Looking ahead into future seasons, Baylor is set to host UIW in 2027 in McLane Stadium.
The Bears (0-1) will return on Saturday to play against No. 17 SMU at 11 a.m., at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The Bears haven’t played SMU since 2016 where the ‘Stangs fell to Baylor 40-13. Their first match up in 1916, Baylor took down SMU 61-0.
