Keeping Up with Baylor Basketball
WOMEN’S – The No. 14 women’s team beat Iowa State in last Friday’s Big 12 championship quarterfinal. On Saturday, the Bears played Oklahoma State in the semifinal and avenged their loss earlier in the season, playing into overtime and beating the Cowgirls 84-74. Baylor suffered another loss to TCU in the championship final on Sunday, giving the No. 6 Horned Frogs their first Big 12 tournament title, 59-64.
The women ended their Big 12 season ranked No. 2 in the Big 12, with a 15-3 conference record, 27-7 overall. According to ESPN’s Bracketology, the team is predicted to be seeded No. 4 in the NCAA tournament.
MEN’S – The men’s team lost to Houston in its last regular season game of the year, landing the No. 7 seed heading into the Big 12 tournament. The Bears dominated K-State in the second round on Wednesday, then lost 74-76 to No. 9 Texas Tech in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
Despite a tough season for the men, VJ Edgecombe and Norchad Omier were named to AP’s All-Big 12 Second Team. Edgecombe also took home the title of Big 12 Freshman of the year.

Baylor cuts KWBU funding
The University announced it would no longer financially support the public radio station KWBU, citing “a reprioritization of (Baylor’s) discretionary funds,” according to Inside Radio. “Baylor has been affected by the uncertainty and many financial pressures that have impacted higher education nationwide,” Baylor said in a statement. “As Baylor aims to be good stewards of students’ tuition dollars, we are reducing the direct financial subsidy and underwriting the University provides to the station as part of a campuswide strategic budget reallocation process.”
The University will continue to provide in-kind support, including office space and IT and accounting services. However, the decision leaves KWBU with a $200,000 budget shortfall, equalling some 20% of the station’s operating budget.
