Pro Mundo, New Meaning
Baylor and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship this week announced a partnership responding to the decline in Baptist-identifying students over the years. The University over the years has become a ‘melting pot’ for Christian denominations and recently expanded its motto, “Pro Ecclesia, Pro Texana,” to include Pro Mundo, which means for the world. “This partnership is certainly an extension of our strategic priority to prepare students to live in a global, caring society and share God’s love worldwide, and we look forward to working with CBF in support of these efforts,” Livingstone said in Baptist News Global’s article on the partnership.
Traffic Jam
No surprise here–construction on Interstate 35 through Waco will continue starting on Monday, June 23. We know. We cried too. Just make sure to account for the construction in your route to Baylor Homecomings through 2029.
This is all a part of the My35 Waco South project to improve mobility and reduce congestion on the roads. This project will stretch three miles of I-35 lanes and frontage roads from S Loop 340 to 12th Street. On the bright side, this long-lasting project will add sidewalks, new bridges will help improve traffic control, and overpasses and frontage roads will be reconstructed. So long, potholes!
Isn’t this Tariffic?
Tariffs, by definition, are taxes imposed by one country’s imported goods from another country. Are they necessarily bad? No. But they aren’t identified as good either. Rather, they offer a balance for our country according to Adé Oyedijo, Ph.D., Pedro Reyes, Ph.D., and Hannah Stolze, Ph.D.–three professors from the Hankamer School of Business who consider the pros and cons of tariffs in a new Baylor release.
Reyes talks about the slowing effects of imported goods and how we are seeing opposite effects of what was happening during the COVID-19 pandemic–when there was a need for certain products to be imported, but restrictions denied us immediate access. The overall arching theme of the article is if we are well-equipped, tariffs can serve as a strategic negotiation tool.
You can explore this idea further in an episode of The Green Room podcast (appropriately titled “Tariffying Tariffs”) where Dr. Steve Gardner and The Baylor Line’s own Jonathon Platt discuss the current administration’s tariffs and talk about the economic theories behind the policies.

Artist Cade Kegerreis (’17) has been painting since his high school years, and his career’s work can be seen in notable places like Union Hall and the Dr Pepper Museum. This week, Cade’s latest show of love for art, Waco, and Baylor–a mural amplifying notable coaches of the University’s past and famous Waco and Baylor scenes–was unveiled at George’s and featured by KWTX.
The most notable element in Cade’s mural? We have our eyes on Green Bear. If you know, you know.

A recent graduate from Baylor softball, Shaylon Govan finished off a rather successful season, earning College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-America accolades. Shaylon is now the fourth Bear in softball history to receive this award twice. If that’s not enough, Shaylon holds a 3.79 GPA in her Master’s program for Community Health Science. And if her academia isn’t impressive enough, she also set an all-time record in career-walks with 143 and a batting average of .407.
