Not Your Average Walmart Experience: An interview with John David Rainey

Tune in as we explore the career of John David Rainey, EVP & CFO of Walmart, and how he presents Walmart not only as a brand, but an opportunity to foster community.

Welcome to ‘Episode 19’ of The Baylor Line’s flagship podcast.

Host Jonathon Platt meets with John David Rainey, EVP & CFO of Walmart. From small town Angleton, his life lesson of leadership begins with how you treat people.

We navigate his career in three major companies: United Airlines – formerly Continental Airlines – during its time of transition in a post-9/11 world, PayPal in its transformation into a global tech company, and now at Walmart.

Platt and Rainey go into Rainey’s hands-on approach with his work, from loading up a plane with ramp workers to knowing every associate’s name. His advice to students is to ask not what your career will be, but rather how you are going to do it.

Tune in to hear a story rooted in family, perseverance, and creating communities in a corporate role.

We’ll have more new episodes of The Green Room for you every week – stay tuned for the incredible list of guests we’ve already lined up, namely:

  • The Bus Tour with Bob Darden
  • 1953 Tequila Panel
  • Devon Li & Jaja Chen, Owners of Cha Community
  • And so, so many more.
