Former quarterback J. J. Joe dies at 54
Baylor Hall of Famer J. J. Joe, Grant Teaff’s final starting quarterback, passed away Tuesday. Inducted into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006, Joe was not only an iconic quarterback but also completed 21 seasons as the color analyst for the Baylor football radio broadcast.
“He was an excellent leader and a talented athlete. He was unselfish and always cared more about the success of his teammates than his own accolades. He was tough, determined and boy, did he love his teammates and Baylor University,” Teaff said in the “B” Association’s release.

Channel 25 reported on students’ reactions to the tuition hike. Unfortunately – as is the reality for many Baylor students – I’ll be stuck with student loans from my four years at Baylor for the next … well let’s just say several years. It turns out I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into when I signed the dotted line at 18 years old.
The future of DEI at Baylor
President Linda Livingstone met with state legislators on Monday to discuss the future of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in the face of state-wide bans around Texas. “We appreciate that our legislature in Texas values the independence of private institutions in this state and recognizes that the role of the state government in state institutions is different than the role of the government in private institutions like Baylor,” Livingstone told The Lariat.
Concerts galore
In a big week for music lovers, Baylor announced McLane Stadium sold out less than a week after tickets went on sale for “The Boys from Oklahoma Texas Encore,” featuring Cross Canadian Ragweed and the Turnpike Trouadours.
It also announced Grammy-nominee and Baylor alum Forrest Frank will bring his Child of God Tour Part 2 to Foster Pavilion on April 22, its first ticketed concert event since opening. Tickets went on sale to the general public at the time of this article’s publishing, 10 a.m. on Feb. 28.
Common Grounds turns 30
If you went to Baylor in the past 30 years, chances are you made at least one (or one hundred) coffee runs to Common Grounds. And if you haven’t been back to campus recently, make sure you try out the chain’s newest location on Franklin Avenue next time you’re in town. The iconic coffee shop, which started out as a class project, turned 30 years old this week.
Common Grounds was the site of so many memories – good and bad – throughout my four years as a student. So many rush dates, study sessions, and the time my sophomore year trio chose the swanky patio out back as our meeting place to finalize our friendship break up … all accompanied by a delicious Cowboy Coffee.
