Diplomacy inside her DNA: An Interview with Kristin Diwan

Biology and foreign service double major turned senior resident at the Arab Gulf States Institute, Kristin Diwan talks foreign policy and culture

Welcome to ‘Episode 12’ of The Baylor Line’s flagship podcast, The Green Room

Host Jonathon Platt meets with Kristin Diwan, a senior resident at the Arab Gulf States Institute. The two dive into how her work as an analyst and geopolitics involving Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and beyond. This wide-ranging conversation takes you from Central Texas to the Middle East, from mentors to callings.

Obtaining one of the most unique combination of degrees possible, Kristin double majored in biology and foreign service. Throughout her time at Baylor, Kristin felt a deep passion for international studies and foreign service. With inspiration from her friends who were international students, she quickly grasped the need for their voices to be heard. Kristin later continued her education, obtaining a master’s degree at Johns Hopkins and a Ph.D. at Harvard, and held the Qatar Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Georgetown University.

Kristin and Jonathon talk about Arab society and culture. Kristin goes into detail on her projects on political activism and generational change. They also talk about the leading technology status in Saudi Arabia and development of AI.
