Dancing, Laughter, and Divine Improv: An Interview with Molly Murchie

From the historic Waco events of the 90s to performing improv sermons in D.C., Molly Murchie shares her journey in finding joy in the unexpected.

Sit down, get comfy and listen in. The Wise Molly Lama is ready to read your cards. The first card she pulls is The Fool. She pauses dramatically. “I didn’t know you were in this deck!”

Welcome to ‘Episode 14’ of The Baylor Line’s flagship podcast, The Green Room.

Host, Jonathon Platt is met with The Wise Molly Lama … I mean … Molly Murchie,  a librarian at the District of Columbia Public Schools during the day, comedian by night.

Molly’s Baylor adventure begins in the 90s, smoke rises from Mount Carmel, visible from a French classroom window. It was the Branch Dividian. If that wasn’t enough to experience during her undergrad, Murchie was there for the long-awaited fall of the no dancing rule.

Her story is a journey through the sacred and absurd: rumors, chapel crashes, and campus satire societies – which nobody NoZe about!

Now a regular performer with Washington Improv Theater, Molly leads improv church, a show where sermons meet sketch and laughter is the spiritual act.

Tune in to hear how Molly Murchie ended up dancing on stage with Conan O’Brien and Adam Sandler while dressed as Mark Twain.

We’ll have more new episodes of The Green Room for you every Monday and Thursday – stay tuned for the incredible list of guests we’ve already lined up, namely:
