You’ve seen the images. Heard the stories. The Hill Country needs our help.
In a recent survey of our contact list, we found that several hundred Bears currently live in the region of of the Texas Hill Country that’s been shaken by recent flooding and tragedy.
I know a simple post can’t fix what’s broken or lost. But I also know the strength of the Baylor Family. And I want to make clear: the impacted community is not alone.
At The Baylor Line, we say our members matter most. That’s not just a catchy line – it’s a commitment. So we asked those impacted and those supporting relief work: How can we help?
Here is the list we’ve currated. I’m sure there are many, many other worthy causes, but, for now, please consider supporting:
- Kerr County Flood Relief
- “The Community Foundation – a 501(c)(3) public charity serving the Texas Hill Country – will direct funds to vetted organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance. The Fund will support the communities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort. All donations are tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt for your gift. Grants from the Fund will support nonprofit organizations, first responder agencies, and local governments actively involved in response, relief, and recovery efforts. While we are unable to award grants directly to individuals or families – or to fund repairs to private property or replace personal belongings – we are committed to channeling resources to the trusted organizations working tirelessly to help our neighbors in need. Together, we can make a meaningful difference during this challenging time.”
- KSAT
- The local San Antonio news channel has prepared a very indepth list of charities and organizations doing relief work. Find out how and where to send needed supplies, donations, and resources, plus review a list of ways to volunteer and support the work of these worthy (and vetted) organizations.
- BearAid
- “Response following a disaster typically unfolds in four critical stages: rescue, relief, recovery, and rebuild. Baylor University is best positioned to help in the relief and recovery stages. BearAid, Baylor’s disaster relief team of students, faculty, and staff, is currently assessing the situation.”
We believe in doing something. Especially for our own.
Those impacted, their loved ones, and the community will continue to be in our words, prayers, and actions. And if there’s a way you know of that we can support you, lift someone up, or shine a light – please don’t hesitate to reach out.
The Baylor Family only gets better when we come together for each other.
For further news on this tragedy, I highly recommend The Texas Tribune’s coverage. They are the gold standard of thoughtful, careful, and thorough reporting in the state.
