Baylor vs. BU
If you’ve ever wondered what Baylor’s logo might look like in red, here is your chance to find out. Boston University recently released a line of merchandise with a red interlocking “BU” in the middle.
Baylor filed a lawsuit in Texas federal court on August 8 against Boston University for federal trademark infringement under the Trademark Act of 1946. Baylor is asking the court to require Boston to destroy all goods with the logo, which is argued as essentially “confusingly similar” to Baylor’s logo. Baylor also wants the university to recover the costs of this lawsuit, with interest.
From an article from USA Today, the lawsuit states,”While Baylor does not generally object to Defendant’s use of the initials ‘BU’ in connection with its university, it does object to Defendant’s adoption and use of a specific interlocking BU design that is identical or strikingly similar to Baylor’s federally registered mark.”
The lawsuit notes that Baylor applied to register the interlocking “BU” logo in 1987, which Boston University had opposed. They settled a year later and were told they had to coexist.
Back to Chrome
Baylor football season is coming in hot with players already receiving some early attention, like Sawyer Robertson being on the Manning Award Watch List. This week, there’s yet another announcement getting the fans hyped: The comeback of the chrome helmet. Fans have been asking for this iconic look to make an appearance for years. The new helmets will be worn August 29 for Baylor’s season opener against Auburn – Blackout on the Brazos with a gold chrome helmet.
Concert Central
Earlier this year, Baylor hosted its first concert at the Paul and Alejandra Foster Pavilion, featuring Claire Leslie and Baylor alum Forrest Frank, which was nothing short of successful. This allowed Baylor to make use of its utilities year-round and host more multi-faced events (concerts, comedy shows, etc.). On Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m., rising country artist Tucker Wetmore will be headlining at his first arena show. The tickets will be for sale to the public today at 10 a.m.
Mind over Gavel
Baylor Law professor Dr. Christopher Jaeger conducts his research to uncover new insights surrounding the question in how jurors interpret reasonableness – combining his J.D. and both undergraduate and doctoral degrees in psychology.
On an episode of the Baylor Connections podcast, Jaeger said, “So, can we identify some of those misbeliefs and potentially come up with ways to bring the law better into alignment with things that we do know about how the human mind works, and how people make decisions and act in the world?”
Last fall, Jaeger was named co-winner of the Association of American Law Schools’ (AALS), in addition to this he is also published in journals ranging from Yale Law to the Journal of Experimental: Human Perception and Performance.
